Digestif, for after dinner
Digestifs are a way to conclude a long meal, intending to aid digestion and honoring the experience of nourishment...
Digestif is a newsletter from the communal digital and print space of Wack Mag. Curated, but raw, here we’ll share the things we come across both in life and online that stick with us or spur real life conversations. By now, we know where to find recommendations for the best chapstick and the hottest NA beverages, but what about the poem that sits deep in your belly or the discussion forum on a movie you keep talking about with your friends? Digestif aids the breaking down of what we consume, (hopefully) spurs new thoughts, and deepens existing ones.
We hope for this to be a collection of the best corners of the internet, for there are only so many—the things that speak to you that make it really hard to delete social media for good (aside from the desire to see the faces of your beautiful friends).
Before Wack Mag & After Wack Mag (a brief history)
Wack Mag started as a college publication when four women of Emerson College were sick of the prestige of college magazines. We wanted to share wackier things while not being bound by the expectations of 30-year-old publications. We grew Wack Mag from a seed and now it has new leaves and branches.
Since our birth in 2019 we have published two print issues with the themes of “Transitions” and “Play.” We plan to do more print projects in the near future!
Wack Mag, Issue 01 — Transitions
Featuring 22+ artists
8.5 in x 11 in
40 pages
Wack Mag, Issue 02 — Play
Featuring 30+ artists
7 in x 9 in
91 pages
We collaborated with so many amazing artists to create these two print issues, and got to watch the ideas we formed as 19-year-olds come to fruition by the time we all graduated at 22. Side-by-side we created the physical representation of our brains, and fostered the community we desperately needed.
But now, what do we need?
All four of us live in completely different cities with different time zones and four full-time jobs, so finding the time to create a magazine has posed a challenge as we have immersed ourselves in the post-grad world. We need to cook dinner and go to our jobs and kiss our friends and make our beds. We can hardly afford our rent—how are we supposed to print a glossy bound magazine?
But the desire for community and the building of community remains. We still need to create and continue to use Wack as the tool it always has been—to share art, harness our communities, and break down the ego behind it.
Digestif aims to be a little branch, a resource, of this community. The aftermath of weeding through AI-generated content and fad diets (snooze). Highlighting the real people making real things! Real conversations, sticky words, and experimental projects—the nutrients your body actually absorbs and uses.
That’s where Digestif comes in.
Whether it’s the poem you bookmarked on Instagram or the conversation you had with your friend about what really happens after you die, these ideas will live here. We’ll share who we’re listening to, how we’re moving our bodies, what we’re talking (and sometimes arguing) about, what we’re watching, and more. All with the goal of aiding your creative digestion and fueling you to create, talk, move, and laugh.
We’ll have our first issue of the newsletter coming out soon, so for now we invite you to subscribe to receive Digestif in your inbox bi-weekly. You can follow us on Instagram, as well, where we share additional content and work from creatives we admire.
Thank you for joining us for dessert—we hope you’ll stay a little longer.
Sincerely,
Wack Mag
